    My Zurich Tesla Confessions: 5 Months experience

    March 2026 – AI organized my messy notes, but this is 100% my Tesla app data + real experience with my 2021 Model 3 RWD (VIN: LRW3E7FA2MC40XXXX, late Dec 2021 Shanghai build). Survived 5 months without home charging—here’s exactly what worked for me.

    My Tesla Specs: VIN Decoded

    2021 model year (10th digit M), Shanghai RWD LFP battery (60kWh), heat pump, black trim.
    Displayed range: Was 423km when bought (27k km, 4 years old), now 421km (39k km total). Real-world range: 300km winter (-10°C days), 350km summer steady.

    My Exact Tires: Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3

    No winter wheels—running Pirelli 235/45 R18 98Y Cinturato All Season SF3 Seal XL TL (4 wheels).
    Full swap + recycle old tires at Bosch Service Centre: <1000 CHF total.
    Efficiency: No noticeable difference vs summers (few Wh/km only).
    Pressure: 2.9 bar summer/winter (drops to ~2.7 bar cold, rises to 2.9 bar driving).

    Snow grip fine for Zurich Oct-Apr legal requirements, rain king, barely louder than summers. Road surface matters more than tire marketing hype.

    Winter Heating: Smart Minimal Use

    2021 refresh heat pump system—super efficient but I rarely use most features:

    • Steering wheel: Auto <15°C , rarely notice it on but when it is, really feels nice
    • Seats: Only when really cold when stating driving.
    • Rear windshield defog: Most used—keeps back window clear (Model 3 has no rear wiper!). Uses some extra energy but worth it for visibility
    • Max cabin heat: Only extreme cold when deicing, prefer seats. I also open back windows time to time when on long drives as air tends to becoming try inside small cabin. Thinking already about next gadget to test: Ionizier. 😀

    Cabin temp strategy: Pre-heat 2-3 minutes before leaving → arrives perfect temp instantly. Mostly I am using Auto but Manual on long trips when there is long tunnels, example driving to Milan, prefer manual for inside air option.
    Drive: 18°C winter, 21°C summer AC (minimal energy drain).

    Partner’s dance class bonus: Waiting for her for 2-3hrs with heating/AC on (even if I prefer to with in Tesla lounge when charging) = barely notice energy drain. Will see with summer AC. Netflix/YouTube/browser works great even if little slow with older Intel browser to open (never thought I’d use car for watching Netflix). Just bad there is no Grok to talk with! 😀

    My No-Home-Charging System (5 Months)

    Rule: Charge where I already go—gym, forest walks, shopping. Never detour 15+15min to Tesla Superchargers. Cost irrelevant (even with 30% premium)—convenience and time savings wins.

    Daily Routine (Zero Range Anxiety)

    Morning forest walk 1h: +20& while walking (+84km displayed)
    Gym 2h (walk there = warmup): Arrive → Leave +40%
    Shopping 30-60min: +10/20% charged
    Result: Always topped up, never think about range

    Current avg cost: Little more than 0.40 CHF/kWh (Supercharging mix + cheap work Sundays). Target less than 0.30 CHF with home charging parking place in covered open garage parking.

    Winter Tesla Supercharger charging: Cold battery = 40-70min full charge. Last 10min = calibration. Precondition 15min helps.

    Arrival buffer: 20-30% default (safe for battery). 10% absolute minimum even with plugging in right away after trip.

    Trip hack: Add Supercharger to navigator = auto precondition. Skip for extra shopping time.

    Perfect Zurich Cycle: 70-80% → 50% Daily

    Finally! Will Schedule 10pm-6am off-peak → 80% daily limit.
    Curious: Will I see average cost drop to below 0.30 CHF/kWh? when I battery will be always topped up by default.

    Near Future routine with home charging:

    Daily: 65-80% (230-280km real range)
    Weekly/Biweekly: 100% Friday night → For usual Saturday road trips
    Longer Trips: 100% hours before leaving
    Idle for long weekends / weeks: 50-70% (lowest stress to battery)

    Vampire Drain? Laughable

    Max 1%/day cold, <15% total over 2-week Christmas holiday (parked on the street!). Latest update + LFP = sleeps perfectly with no noticeable drain. There is even “battery saving mode” option now that I can always keep on.

    Battery Health: Supercharging Didn’t Hurt

    5 months heavy DC fast charging: 0.5% loss (423→421km displayed).
    Real range: Minimum 300km winter, 350km summer steady.
    Cold—summer should show +10-20km displayed. 1%/year normal for LFP.

    New: ~430km displayed → 4 years old: 423km →
    My 5 months: 421km LFP laughs at frequent 100% Supercharging
    Next 6/7 months: Will I get few km displayed range back with warmer period driving?

    15-20 More Years? 100% YES

    20k km/year habits:

    • 2046: ~240k km total
    • Displayed: ~350km (75% health)
    • Real summer: ~280km (plenty for Zurich)
      Still can arrive Milan that is 280km away without charging!
    • Drive unit: 500k+ km easy
    • Brakes: Regen = minimal wear

    Zurich-Specific Winter Tips

    1. Pre-heat 2-3min before leaving (arrives perfect)
    2. 18°C winter cabin, 21°C summer AC = minimal drain
    3. Rear defog always = clear visibility (no rear wiper)
    4. 20% displayed buffer = 60km real safety
