Take 1 Hour a Day for Yourself: How to Stop Overstimulation and Finally Let Your Nervous System Heal

Healing requires a calm nervous system. Here’s the full list of practices that can help:

    • No-phone periods
    • Silence
    • Meditation / prayer
    • Humming
    • Legs up the wall
    • Walking
    • 4/8 breathing
    • Grounding
    • Quitting a bad job
    • Deep sleep
    • Cuddling / sex
    • Adrenal cocktail
    • Escaping to Tuscany

How to Fit It Into a Typical Day (≈1 Hour Total Dedicated Calm Time)

For most people with jobs, families, or busy schedules, spread these across natural pockets in your day. The no-phone periods and silence act as protective buffers that don’t feel like “extra work.”

    • Morning (15–20 min focus): No-phone for the first 1–2 hours after waking. Spend 5–10 minutes in silence, meditation, or prayer. Add 4/8 breathing (inhale for 4 counts, exhale for 8) and gentle humming. I also do 10/20 minutes red light therapy.
    • Midday / Afternoon Break (10–15 min): Short walk (ideally with grounding—barefoot if possible) or legs up the wall pose while breathing. Sip an adrenal cocktail here for easy mineral support. I try to go walk before or after breakfast and drink electrolyte water first thing in the morning and also after sweating like heavy workout or durning/after sauna sessions once a week (Sundays 3x10min in 65 degrees, at least 20min in the middle)-
    • Evening Wind-Down (20–25 min focus): No-phone for the last 1–2 hours before bed. Create 20–30 minutes of silence. Include humming, more breathing or meditation, cuddling/affection if available, and legs up the wall. Prioritize deep, restorative sleep in a cool, dark room. I also try to not to eat now 3-4 hours before sleep but not always possible.

This keeps the total active + protected calm time around 60 minutes while the bigger shifts (quitting a draining job or planning a Tuscany-style escape) serve as longer-term goals. Start small, stay consistent, and notice how your body begins to feel safer and more resilient.

In our always-on world, we’re bombarded with notifications, endless scrolling, bright lights, and non-stop demands. The result? A nervous system stuck in high alert—fight-or-flight mode on repeat. Chronic stress like this doesn’t just make you feel anxious or exhausted; it blocks true healing. No matter how clean you eat, how much you train, or how many supplements you take, your body won’t fully repair if it doesn’t feel safe enough to rest.

The good news? You don’t need fancy retreats or expensive gadgets. You can reclaim calm with about 1 intentional hour per day, woven into a normal routine. These simple practices activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s built-in “chill” switch) and often stimulate the vagus nerve—the key pathway for shifting out of stress and into repair mode.

Why a Calm Nervous System Matters Most

Healing happens in rest, not hustle. When your vagus nerve gets gentle stimulation, heart rate slows, digestion improves, inflammation can drop, and overnight repair kicks in. Tools like slow breathing with longer exhales, humming (which creates soothing vibrations), grounding, and silence send clear “you’re safe” signals to your brain. Research shows these approaches can boost heart rate variability (HRV)—a strong marker of nervous system resilience and flexibility.

Modern life overstimulates us constantly. Carving out protected time isn’t selfish—it’s essential maintenance for feeling human again.

Making the Practices Work in Real Life

The list above might look long, but you don’t have to do everything every day. The daily structure I shared earlier turns it into something sustainable. No-phone periods reduce input overload, silence allows your brain to downshift (studies link intentional quiet to lower sympathetic activity and better vagal tone), and the active tools layer on direct calming effects.

    For example:

    • 4/8 breathing and humming extend the exhale and create vibrations that engage the vagus nerve, increasing parasympathetic activity and HRV in short sessions , I do it in the morning, usually 5/5 breathing.
    • Legs up the wall (before sleeping) and walking (especially grounded) combine gentle movement with rest to release tension.
    • Adrenal cocktails (typically fresh orange juice or coconut water) offer quick electrolyte and vitamin C support to help your body handle stress without adding caffeine.
    • Cuddling or affectionate touch releases oxytocin, deepening the sense of safety.
    • Deep sleep becomes easier when the day ends with less stimulation.

Consistency beats intensity. After a week or two, many people notice they feel less reactive, sleep more deeply, and recover from daily stressors with greater ease.

    Longer-Term Anchors for Deeper Healing

While the daily hour builds the foundation, some changes create space for everything else to work better:

    • Quit a bad job or marriage or friend etc. if it’s a constant source of dread—no daily practice fully compensates for ongoing stress.
    • Plan occasional bigger resets, like an unplugged escape to nature (Tuscany-style: slow days, good food, beautiful surroundings, zero agenda, for 1-3 weeks). I feel no phone in this period is the best. I found a app Brick that finally helped me to get off the phone.

The Compound Effect of Showing Up for Yourself

In a world that profits from keeping you hooked and anxious, claiming 1 hour a day for calm is a quiet act of rebellion. You’re not “doing nothing”—you’re giving your body and mind permission to heal.

Try the suggested daily flow for 30 days. Protect the time as fiercely as you protect your most important meetings. Track how your energy, mood, and sleep shift. Your calmer, more resilient self will thank you.

What from the list feels easiest to start with? The morning no-phone silence, an evening humming session, or something else? Share in the comments—I’d love to hear how it goes for you.

This version keeps the original practices fully visible at the top as a clean bullet list, immediately followed by the practical daily summary you wanted. The article remains encouraging and realistic without feeling overwhelming. If you’d like any adjustments (tone, length, adding more science details, or changing the sample timings), just say the word!

  • My Personal Journey

This is my story in simple, honest and short form — not to “inspire” you, but to show how a messy, overwhelmed life can slowly be rebuilt with just a few key habits.

Below is a compact timeline of my life, followed by the lessons it offers for busy entrepreneurs, parents, and anyone who feels stuck or ashamed of their “messy” path.

For a long time, I tried to “fix” everything at once — business, health, relationships — and failed again and again. Only in the last few years did I realize that rebuilding doesn’t start with hustle or victory stories. It starts with facing the chaos honestly, accepting slow progress, and finding peace in daily micro‑habits that keep the body and mind stable.

Before I turned 7, life already taught me about fragility: a serious car accident, bullying at school, the loss of a PE teacher, and the absence of my father. Those moments shaped my need for independence and my deep sensitivity to life’s instability.

My Life in Dates (Short Timeline)

    • 1997–2001: Lived in my favorite small city, met my best friend (now in Finland), and stayed with my mom until she moved to Finland with my sister (I was born and living in Estonia).
    • 2002–2003: Lived with my dad for two years, went to high school (ages 11–12), and started working young. Around 2003 I began studying civil engineering but never finished.
    • 2006–2007: Bought my first house and had my first girlfriend, who was a few years older.
    • 2007–2008: Met my now‑ex‑wife. We worked together for years; she was about ten years older, and I now see I was looking for a kind of new mom figure, not a clear‑eyed partner.
    • 2009: Kidney surgery — born with one functioning kidney and doctors said it could have killed me. This experience deeply changed my view on health and mortality.
    • 2012: Bought a new house.
    • 2013: Got married.
    • 2014: Our child was born (a planned pregnancy). Just weeks before her birth, I caught an intestinal virus after an Olympic‑distance triathlon and took two antibiotics that badly damaged my gut.
    • 2017: Our marriage deteriorated. I wasn’t happy, but I felt scared because my ex‑wife talked about lawyers. Before this time, I had my wisdom teeth removed; one was in a bad position, possibly could have making pain and stress worse to nervous system because I decided to remove all 4 as I needed to “go to sleep” anyway for the operation.
    • 2018: We separated and later divorced.
    • 2018–2019: Homeless for 11 months. One week after losing my home, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). I survived doing food deliveries seven days a week, sleeping wherever I could. I still paid child support.
    • 2020: COVID hit and I had no work and no money.
    • 2021: Met my current partner, who was also living in Milan. She’s a few years younger. I feel she “saved me”. I also had COVID about five times and never took a jab.
    • October 31, 2021: Last time I saw my child.
    • March 12, 2022: Fully burned out, couldn’t work anymore. Tried therapy a few times but felt I wasn’t able to be a dad.
    • 2022: Moved to the Netherlands for my partners job, but we didn’t like anything there. Could write a separate article 😀
    • 2023: My grandmother died very quickly from cancer. Around the same time, money and work were extremely low again.
    • Late 2023: Moved to Zurich for her job.
    • End of 2023 – early 2024: Contacted social services.
    • Summer 2025: After years of stress and poor sleep, severe inflammation and leaky gut made walking difficult. One day an ambulance came during a panic attack. The paramedics were kind and suggested eye‑movement therapy — that process later released deep, buried emotions.
    • January 2026: Court decision allowed me to see my child freely starting January 2027, once per month (every four weeks).
    • 2026: Now, things are slowly getting better.
    • March 21, 2026: Listened at night to audio meditation and self‑hypnosis to fall asleep; it felt like a small but meaningful step back toward myself.
    • Last two weeks (end of March 2026): Sleep is poor again due to worry about changing houses, seeing my child, money, work, and waiting for support. The first nights after seeing her, I cried a lot.
    • Now: Trying to rebuild through a few simple habits instead of chasing perfection. Seeing my daughter again reminded me why recovery matters — not achievement, but presence, calm, and being able to stay connected.

What You Can Learn From This

If you’re a busy entrepreneur, freelancer, or parent, this story isn’t unique — it’s just honest. Here’s what I learned:

    • Burnout builds slowly. I kept “working and surviving” while my body, relationships, and mental health crumbled. Awareness came only when I couldn’t walk anymore.
    • Gut and joints are stress‑linked. Years of antibiotics, viral illness, and emotional tension contributed to RA, leaky gut, and anxiety — a pattern you can catch early.
    • Sleep and breathing are the first levers. When bigger plans fail, the fastest recovery starts with sleep and a simple breathing practice (5‑second in / 5‑second out, 20 minutes daily).
    • Small systems beat big promises. You don’t need to scale three businesses or run marathons to rebuild. One or two solid micro‑routines in health, rest, and focus are enough.

Every physical symptom was a message — the body always remembers what the mind tries to forget.

If you feel stuck, ashamed, or “behind” because your life is messy, this is proof that you can rebuild — not in one heroic move, but with small, honest, 80/20 habits that fit your real, imperfect reality.

Will want to try eye‑movement therapy that should release a lot of buried emotion and trauma that also trigger panic attacks that I now have learned to manage. Also will try trauma therapy and will start to do yoga again.

Today I’m not “fixed,” but I’m steadier. Each month feels like a test — can I sleep, breathe, and stay calm through uncertainty? That’s the real healing. My goal now is integration: body, emotions, fatherhood, and peace — slow, steady recovery, one day at a time.

My goal with sharing this is simple: to normalize imperfection, to show that failure and rebuilding can happen many times in one lifetime, and that health, calm, and fatherhood can slowly return when we stop pretending and stay honest with ourselves.
Maybe my next chapter isn’t about achievement — but about integration: blending my physical healing, emotional clarity, and the wish to live peacefully again, one small consistent step at a time.

  • Can My 5-Year Tesla Do 20 More Years?

My Zurich Tesla Confessions: 5 Months experience

By Siim Metsla, Zurich Tesla Owner
March 2026 – AI organized my messy notes, but this is 100% my Tesla app data + real experience with my 2021 Model 3 RWD (VIN: LRW3E7FA2MC40XXXX, late Dec 2021 Shanghai build). Survived 5 months without home charging—here’s exactly what worked for me.

    My Tesla Specs: VIN Decoded

2021 model year (10th digit M), Shanghai RWD LFP battery (60kWh), heat pump, black trim.
Displayed range: Was 423km when bought (27k km, 4 years old), now 421km (39k km total). Real-world range: 300km winter (-10°C days), 350km summer steady.

    VIN breakdown: LRW=Shanghai Model 3 | F=LFP battery | A=RWD | M=2021 | C=Shanghai plant Pro tip: Door jamb sticker shows exact build month.

My Exact Tires: Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3

No winter wheels—running Pirelli 235/45 R18 98Y Cinturato All Season SF3 Seal XL TL (4 wheels).
Full swap + recycle old tires at Bosch Service Centre: <1000 CHF total.
Efficiency: No noticeable difference vs summers (few Wh/km only).
Pressure: 2.9 bar summer/winter (drops to ~2.7 bar cold, rises to 2.9 bar driving).

Snow grip fine for Zurich Oct-Apr legal requirements, rain king, barely louder than summers. Road surface matters more than tire marketing hype.

    Winter Heating: Smart Minimal Use

2021 refresh heat pump system—super efficient but I rarely use most features:

    • Steering wheel: Auto <15°C , rarely notice it on but when it is, really feels nice
    • Seats: Only when really cold when stating driving.
    • Rear windshield defog: Most used—keeps back window clear (Model 3 has no rear wiper!). Uses some extra energy but worth it for visibility
    • Max cabin heat: Only extreme cold when deicing, prefer seats. I also open back windows time to time when on long drives as air tends to becoming try inside small cabin. Thinking already about next gadget to test: Ionizier. 😀

Cabin temp strategy: Pre-heat 2-3 minutes before leaving → arrives perfect temp instantly. Mostly I am using Auto but Manual on long trips when there is long tunnels, example driving to Milan, prefer manual for inside air option.
Drive: 18°C winter, 21°C summer AC (minimal energy drain).

Partner’s dance class bonus: Waiting for her for 2-3hrs with heating/AC on (even if I prefer to with in Tesla lounge when charging) = barely notice energy drain. Will see with summer AC. Netflix/YouTube/browser works great even if little slow with older Intel browser to open (never thought I’d use car for watching Netflix). Just bad there is no Grok to talk with! 😀

    My No-Home-Charging System (5 Months)

Rule: Charge where I already go—gym, forest walks, shopping. Never detour 15+15min to Tesla Superchargers. Cost irrelevant (even with 30% premium)—convenience and time savings wins.

Zurich Charger Reality (Real Costs + Speed)

    Location App Speed Price Notes
Work Sundays QR code 22kW→11kW real 0.15 CHF Best deal!
EWZ Zurich SwissCharge app 22kW→11kW real 0.50 CHF 4h limit!
Energie 360 SwissCharge cost less 50kW→25kW real 0.59 CHF Less than 2h full from 20%. 2h limit!
Shell Shell app cost less 22kW→11kW real 0.79 CHF Free Zurich Zoo parking bonus
Tesla SC Tesla app 170kW peak (my M3 21 MY) 0.56 CHF In future, Road Trips only

QR scan → Debit & Credit payment options, even Apple Pay/Twint. No charging cards needed.

    Daily Routine (Zero Range Anxiety)

Morning forest walk 1h: +20& while walking (+84km displayed)
Gym 2h (walk there = warmup): Arrive → Leave +40%
    Shopping 30-60min: +10/20% charged
Result: Always topped up, never think about range

Current avg cost: Little more than 0.40 CHF/kWh (Supercharging mix + cheap work Sundays). Target less than 0.30 CHF with home charging parking place in covered open garage parking.

Winter Tesla Supercharger charging: Cold battery = 40-70min full charge. Last 10min = calibration. Precondition 15min helps.

Arrival buffer: 20-30% default (safe for battery). 10% absolute minimum even with plugging in right away after trip.

Trip hack: Add Supercharger to navigator = auto precondition. Skip for extra shopping time.

    Perfect Zurich Cycle: 70-80% → 50% Daily

Start End Real Distance Why Perfect
    70-80% (295-335km displayed = 230-280km real) 50% (210km displayed = 175km real) 80-120km Covers ALL Zurich driving

    Example: Start 75% (315km displayed = 260km real summer) → drive 50-80km → end 60% → gym charge → repeat.

    Garage Charging (New Era)

    Finally! Will Schedule 10pm-6am off-peak → 80% daily limit.
Curious: Will I see average cost drop to below 0.30 CHF/kWh? when I battery will be always topped up by default.

Near Future routine with home charging:

    Daily: 65-80% (230-280km real range)
Weekly/Biweekly: 100% Friday night → For usual Saturday road trips
Longer Trips: 100% hours before leaving
Idle for long weekends / weeks: 50-70% (lowest stress to battery)

    Vampire Drain? Laughable

Max 1%/day cold, <15% total over 2-week Christmas holiday (parked on the street!). Latest update + LFP = sleeps perfectly with no noticeable drain. There is even “battery saving mode” option now that I can always keep on.

    Battery Health: Supercharging Didn’t Hurt

5 months heavy DC fast charging: 0.5% loss (423→421km displayed).
Real range: Minimum 300km winter, 350km summer steady.
Cold—summer should show +10-20km displayed. 1%/year normal for LFP.

    New: ~430km displayed → 4 years old: 423km →
My 5 months: 421km LFP laughs at frequent 100% Supercharging
Next 6/7 months: Will I get few km displayed range back with warmer period driving?

    15-20 More Years? 100% YES

    20k km/year habits:

    • 2046: ~240k km total
    • Displayed: ~350km (75% health)
    • Real summer: ~280km (plenty for Zurich)
Still can arrive Milan that is 280km away without charging!
    • Drive unit: 500k+ km easy
    • Brakes: Regen = minimal wear

    Zurich-Specific Winter Tips

    1. Pre-heat 2-3min before leaving (arrives perfect)
    2. 18°C winter cabin, 21°C summer AC = minimal drain
    3. Rear defog always = clear visibility (no rear wiper)
    4. 20% displayed buffer = 60km real safety
    5. Pirelli 235/45R18 All-Season = <1000 CHF Bosch Service Centre
Curious to see how many km they last, guarantee is for 2years and minimum 4mm.
Got to be part of a 40 CHF cash back campaign for 2026 Swiss Highway e-vignette!
    6. Tire pressure: 2.9 bar (2.7bar when was very cold → 2.9bar when driving)

    Key Takeaways

    • Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 = winter/summer/rain champ
Also used with my previous Toyota Avensis & was confident when ordering.
    • Gym chargers = free range during workout
    • No detours—charge where you need to go anyway
    • Rarely use seat/steering heat—saves on range
    • LFP don’t mind frequent Supercharging (0.5% loss proves it)
    • Displayed ≠ real (421km = 300/350km even winter)
    • 70-80%→50% cycle = battery immortality
    • 20-30% arrival buffer = bulletproof

  • How I Calm Panic Attacks Naturally

My Daily Routine That Actually Works

Today world is full of distractions and stress. For brains it is very confusing as there is no difference for him from a email that stresses you that is not life Threatening vs tiger that wants to eat you right now.

Did you know panic attacks & anxaiety hit when you’re over breathing? — fast swallow breaths (12-16+ per minute instead of ideally 6) flood your body with oxygen, tense your muscles because of calcium release, and make SpO2 hit 98-100% on iWatch (starting from iWatch 8 you can measure SpO2 automatically in Europe). It feels like you can’t breathe, but slowing down fixes it fast.

Here’s my simple daily breathing routine using apps and tricks that keep me calm.

    Morning: iBreathe App
5 seconds in, 5 seconds out. 5-20 minutes. Or walk outside — 4 steps in, 4 steps out when having a panic attack. Resets everything for me after 1-2km walk.

Alternatives breathing to try (harder to follow for long time): 4 – 6 breathing, 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out and 4-7-8, 4 seconds in, 7 seconds hold, 8 seconds out that should be effective already maximum 4-8 cycles only!

    Afternoon: Mindspo Meditation
22-30 min Mindspo method + “Thinking Samm when breathing in and saa when breathing out and coming back to it even if mind wants to wonder” breathing (better sitting with straight back with eyes closed). For sudden anxiety, box breathe: 4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold or 4 in and 4 out but best is to go for a walk.

As an alternative: Wim Hof Method
10 minutes. Deep breaths + breath holds 30/40 in and keep your breath even if only 15 seconds or even less, then if you need to breath, take 1 breath in and wait another maximum 15 seconds. Pair with legs up on the wall 90 degrees angle and hands over your head but ideally pair with an even short walk — calms the nervous system like nothing else. Repeat 3/4 cycles.

    Night Wake-Ups: Jacobsen Relaxation
10 min tensing/releasing muscles and / or 5-5 breathing. Gets me back to sleep most nights, even after toilet breaks. Not eating too late helps to sleep true all night.

    Panic Attack Now?

    • Breathe into a paper bag (recycles your CO2, calms fast).
    • Ground yourself: touch something, think about the item color and texture, focus away from the feeling.
    • Say “fuck it, come then” — sometimes stops it cold, worked for me few times.
    • Always go outside. Forest walks> sofa scrolling.
Use Brick app to help to do less mindless scrolling
    • I also sit in the forest in summer season with naked foot in the ground for grounding, outdoor swimming has the same effect, has a calming effect too or also cold plunge to 2 degrees water but this can be too much for the body that is already stressed and you can even die from that adrenalin rush after sauna jumping in very cold water so be careful.

Breathing works because it balances O2/CO2, boosts HRV (heart rate variability), and signals “safe” to your vagus nerve. Walking adds movement to burn off stress hormones.

I add NeoRhythm devise (20 min mornings) (plan to try Nurosym vagus nerve simulator in the future) , Sunday saunas (no phone), and weekly acupuncture, biweekly Cardisuit CO2 bathing with occasional lymphatic massages to help the body to relax and stay in rest and digest mode instead of fight or flight mode. Do more of what you love, less of what drains you.

Modern life overstimulates — breathing time is your reset.

  • 10 Simple reasons I drive a Tesla

Tesla Model 3 Real Costs Switzerland 2026

27k km 2021 Standard Range Plus RWD. Added 10k+ km, 2k+/month vs. old 2009 Toyota Avensis SW. Frictionless—here’s why.

    1. Energy costs are a joke
→ Laughable vs 0.15-0.56 CHF/kWh electricity = 6 CHF/100km. No fuel stops, no fuel smells.
    2. Zero range anxiety → Real-world ~350 km range year-round (winter/summer) with my driving and climate use, mostly home-charged.
    3. Effortless drive → Super easy handling and stable feel; I average under 150 Wh/km on mixed driving when I’m not rushing. Smooth regen means I rarely touch the brakes.
    4. Silent cabin → No engine noise, no vibrations, auto temperature every drive—arrive noticeably less tired.
    5. Highway Autopilot → Stress-free arrivals, especially on long motorway runs where the car keeps distance, lane, and speed for you.
    6. Minimal maintenance → No oil changes, no exhaust, no clutch. Regen means brake pads last 100k+ km easily. I mostly think about regular washing (pearl white shows everything).
    7. No seasonal swaps → Pirelli Cinturato all-seasons tires cover my Switzerland use case just fine. City, highway, mild winter—let’s just see how many km they last with my grandwater driving style – very slow like turtle.
    8. OTA updates → New features overnight. Wake up, car does more.
    9. Beautiful design → Sleek, low, more efficient than Model Y. Still love old Model 3 body + new AMD Ryzen processor inside (drove a Paris taxi like that so some of they exist).
    10. No need for costly upgrades
      I keep it simple:
      • No screen cover (maybe later), just towel for sun/overheating protection.
      • Deactivated wireless charging + WiFi (connect only for OTA updates—no Premium Connectivity fee). Fewer EMF sources; don’t sit in car while charging/supercharging.
HEPA filter swap 2x/year + simple grill protector.

    Love the extra storage?
Frunk perfect for König CG-9 snow chains (Tesla-approved 19” Model 3, self-tensioning, Swiss snow-ready), washer fluid, snow brush. Under-back storage doesn’t freeze—no more frozen water bottles!

    Why FWD version?
ostly AWD Model 3s on Swiss roads, but RWD fine if not hardcore mountain driving. Proper tyres + sensible style handles mild winters—single rear motor = better weight distribution, less EMF near legs, more efficiency. Best friend with Model Y wishes he’d picked Model 3 (no family/space needs).

Would I buy the same used Model 3 2021 today?
Yes—real parking sensors I like. Just want new Ryzen hardware in old body (Paris taxi had it—ideal).

Bonus: Built-in audio is very good; sound settings + tips in separate article.

    Most efficient EV class

    My 2021 RWD Standard Plus Range ~150 Wh/km real-world (winter/summer)—top-tier under 150 Wh/km, beats Hyundai Ioniq 6/Mercedes CLA Electric.

Why Tesla direct buy? → No dealer haggling. Got 1yr extra warranty + free Enhanced Autopilot.

New buyers →My Tesla referral link* = Free 1000 Supercharging km or CHF 500 off (first 10).
